BritLeague round-up

Second-from-bottom Ulster increased the gap between them and dead last Leicester Phantoms to four points when they beat Glasgow 1-0, with a 73rd-minute goal from Finnish international Janne Sykkanen.

While Bristol Pirates won 1-0 at home to Newcastle Geordies through a Jamie Ross strike in the 64th minute.

And finally Leeds Lightning won 1-0 at East Anglia Knights with an Adam Stockwell goal five minutes from time.

Dragons 3-1 Glasgow FC

The Dragons beat Glasgow FC 3-1 in front of a big crowd at the Millennium Stadium.

Ben Daffy responded to Weegies striker Ryan McQueen's opener by chipping keeper Stuart McDonald two minutes from the break.

Rookie striker Ian Rhys Griffin put the Welsh side in front before Christian Jones netted the insurance goal only two minutes later.

The home club will be happy with the large turnout at the Millennium, even booking a mini-gig at half-time for Welsh mega star Marky Jones. The pre-match and half-time shows also saw the Dragons' cheerleaders performing with TOTV's very own dance team, the Goal Girls.

More importantly though, for the Dragons, they will take three points as they aim to improve after their slow start to the season.

Glasgow won against Nottingham in an Good Friday special at Hampden.

Scott MacRae put the home side in front after 12 minutes.

The Weegies kept onto the lead until the 70th minute, when Dutch international Jason van Appelen headed in his first BritLeague to level the scores.

But MacRae hit a stunning winner three minutes from time to give Glasgow an important win.

Ruckus 3-0 Glasgow FC

Sunday 28th March

A Mario Dokic double and a Antonio Federali freak goal were enough to secure victory for South Coast over Glasgow.

Croatian Dokic scored two classy goals, the first after two minutes, the second with two minutes left.

Federali managed to score a goal when a poor Glasgow clearance hit the Italian on the leg, managing to sail into the back of the net.

Manchester Rockers won 2-1 over Glasgow FC.

Peter Elkins headed the Rockers in front on the beanpole striker's debut for the club, before Scott MacRae equalised for Glasgow.

And Manchester's Glaswegian midfielder Gary McManus scored the winner.

BritLeague launches respect scheme

The BritLeague has announced that it will launch a respect scheme for the upcoming 2010 season after witnessing several unsavoury incidents in 2009.

The League hopes the new scheme, called "Play the Game", will clamp down on violent incidents seen in '09.

This follows after last season's mass brawl in the Battle of Scotland between Edinburgh and Glasgow as well as the Yorkshire Derby between Leeds Lightning and Sheffield Strikers which saw seven players booked and four players sent off.

GFC and Magic in big trade deal

The Manchester Magic have signed Scotland CSA and Glasgow FC defender John Jeffries, in exchange for England CSA midfielder Stephen Wilkins.

The deal is reportedly worth £8m.

Glasgow FC won 3-2 in a hotly contested all-Scottish clash with Edinburgh Eagles.

The GFC goals came from Scott MacRae, Steven Weir and Riko.

The Eagles goals were courtesy of Kevin Tennant and Clint van den Bergh.

GFC were dealt a blow when skipper John Jeffries was concussed after a collision with 'keeper Mike McGuire in the dying seconds.

A brawl then started after John Bengtsson allegedly spat at Eagles captain Craig Borchers.

Bengtsson, MacRae and Van den Bergh were shown yellow cards in for their parts in the scuffle - MacRae and Van den Bergh were seen kicking each other but amazingly the Welsh referee - Martyn Watson - did not send them off.

Petrovsky leaves GFC for Canada's Celtic

Glasgow FC have agreed to terminate Colin Petrovsky's contract after the Canadian striker agreed a deal to return to his homeland with Toronto Celtic.

The Canada CSA veteran, 32, only joined GFC in the winter from FC London.

But he says he has failed to adapt to the Scottish country-life.

Petrovsky will officially join Toronto Celtic on 1 May, with the Canadian Premier League season starting two days later.

Kevin Henderson's powerful left-foot 30-yarder gave the Strikers all three points in Glasgow.

The blond bombshell, 30, had a go after John Bengtsson's unusually poor header fell at his feet. He then met with precision, hit it with his trademark left foot and it rocketed into the net, travelling at an estimated 80 mph.

Reading Ruckus saw off Glasgow FC with goals from Zak McKracken, Stefan Shanahan and Julio Marconi.

The game was part 1 of another Madejski double-header, with London Irish playing a rugby match later in the day.

A John Bengtsson header was enough for Glasgow to get their first win of the season.

The Sweden CSA captain headed past fellow compatriot Jonas Pasmark after Eddo Campbell's corner.

London United 5-0 Glasgow FC

Sunday 30th March - MLF First Kick
HMV Park, Essex

A rampant London United showed everyone why they play some of the best football in Britain with a thumping 5-0 victory over Glasgow FC at HMV Park.

The first four goals they scored was not without quality.

Ian Parker played a one-two with CraiCo and then crossed the ball for Rodrigo Santos, who hit a spectacular diving header home for the 1-0.

It was the first MLF goal for the Brazilian, who also made his league debut.

The second goal was just brilliant. Ian Parker delivered a brilliant corner, and CraiCo just backheeled it in with his left foot and the make the score 2-0.

The third goal was good as well. Kevin Warhurst played a great through-ball, and Edward Redwood broke the offside trap and rounded the keeper to score another brilliant goal and make it 3-0.

And Redwood was on the scoresheet again after a quality backheel from Cristiano Costa.

At 4-0, and the game virtually over, an Ashton Reid corner found the head of John Macdonald, and the rookie centre-back scored the 5-0.
