Saturday's Action from Round 1

FC Nottingham cruised to a 3-0 win at Glasgow, while South Coast Rangers managed a 1-0 win at Dublin.

Manchester Rockers defeated Edinburgh 2-0, Newcastle Geordies easily defeated Sheffield Strikers 3-0, while Dragons and East Anglia were held to a 1-1 draw.

The Dragons and Sheffield played to a 0-0 draw in front of a disappointingly low crowd in Swansea.

A acute shot from Paolo Baggola was enough to give the Strikers the win against Edinburgh.

Wednesday 17th March

Hillsborough, Sheffield. Att: 21,035.

Charlie Vickers' last-gasp header won the game for the Pirates against the Strikers at Hillsborough.

Mighty Rats 1-0 Strikers

Saturday 13th March

Mighty Cheese Arena, Kirkby. Att: 10,675.

The Mighty Rats recorded their first win of the season with a 1-0 over the Sheffield Strikers.

Zak McCracken put Merseyside in front after 70 minutes.

Strikers 1-3 Real Birmingham

Saturday 6th March

Bramall Lane, Sheffield. Att: 15,306.

Cristiano Costa scored a hat-trick as Real Birmingham got off to flying start with a 3-1 win in Sheffield.

The Strikers however made it 1-0 with a goal from Phil van der Vuuren after only two minutes.

But it only fired up Real. Right-back Paolo Baggola upended Costa in the box, and the Portuguese slotted home the penalty.

Adam Barry hit a ferocious volley which Andrea Rossi punched out, only towards the oncoming Costa who tapped it in to make it 2-1.

And Costa completed his treble with a beautiful free-kick that had so much power and swerve on it.

FC London win BritLeague Cup

FC London won their first silverware since the 2007 CSA Champions League when they beat Sheffield Strikers 3-1 in the BritLeague Cup Final at the Vodafone Stadium on Saturday.

Brian Nixon scored a brace, before Chris Rhodes' long range chip in stoppage time.

The FC London team however looked scarcely recognisable as many new faces appeared in Brian Young's line-up, such as Clint van den Bergh, Ryan Welch and "Jezza" Constantinou.

Welch, a winger signed from London City, made a big impact in the first goal, setting up a cross for Nixon to head it in after 12 minutes.

However it wasn't all smiles in the first half as prolific winger Craig Palmer limped off after 34 minutes with a hip problem. He was replaced by Welshman Chris Rhodes.

And suddenly the Strikers found an equaliser straight after the kick-off, when Kevin Henderson, almost 32, took advantage of poor FCL defending and buried it past Christian Watson.

But however their joy was short-lived when Sheffield's Swiss full-back Paolo Baggola handballed in the box and Nixon buried the penalty.

The tempo of the game slowed down after that, but in the 90th minute, Rhodes spotted Andrea Rossi off his line, and from 40 yards out, chipped the ball over the Strikers' Italian custodian and into the net.

BritLeague launches respect scheme

The BritLeague has announced that it will launch a respect scheme for the upcoming 2010 season after witnessing several unsavoury incidents in 2009.

The League hopes the new scheme, called "Play the Game", will clamp down on violent incidents seen in '09.

This follows after last season's mass brawl in the Battle of Scotland between Edinburgh and Glasgow as well as the Yorkshire Derby between Leeds Lightning and Sheffield Strikers which saw seven players booked and four players sent off.

Bristol Pirates won 2-0 over the Sheffield Strikers with goals from Andrew Powell and Billy Burnheart.

Seeing the grass grow seemed to be more interesting as seeing this dreadful nil-nil draw between the Sheffield Strikers and the Reading Ruckus at Hillsborough.

Strikers 1-1 Lightning

Monday 5th May - MLF Round 8: The Yorkshire Derby
Hillsborough, Sheffield, England

Sheffield Strikers and Leeds Lightning drew 1-1 at Hillsborough.

Kevin Henderson put Sheffield in the lead before Danny Rivera equalized for the Lightning.

Handbags erupted at the final whistle and a riot between Strikers and Lightning fans soon occured.

Richie O'Brien's header won the game 1-0 for Leeds Lightning over their Yorkshire rivals Sheffield Strikers.

Christian Jones' last-gasp stunner gave the Dragons three points in Sheffield.

Jones hit a belter from 30 yards out to give the Welsh side a precious win.

Glasgow FC 0-1 Strikers

Saturday 12th April - MLF Round 4
Hampden Park, Glasgow, Scotland

Kevin Henderson's powerful left-foot 30-yarder gave the Strikers all three points in Glasgow.

The blond bombshell, 30, had a go after John Bengtsson's unusually poor header fell at his feet. He then met with precision, hit it with his trademark left foot and it rocketed into the net, travelling at an estimated 80 mph.

Strikers 1-2 Monsters

Saturday 5th April - MLF Round 3

Middlesbrough Monsters beat Sheffield Strikers 2-1 at Hillsborough. The Monsters scorers were Tim van den Bergh and Darren Watkinson, while Kevin Henderson got the Strikers' consolation goal.

Druids 2-0 Strikers

A Stephen Berry double handed the Dublin Druids' first ever MLF win over the Sheffield Strikers.

The Ireland international winger Steve Berry scored two 30-yarders to send Croke Park into absolute ecstasy.

Strikers 0-1 Ajax London

Saturday 29th March - MLF First Kick
Bramall Lane, Sheffield

Ajax London won 1-0 after a spectacular goal from Peter Elkins at Sheffield Strikers.

Elkins did a scissors kick after a sweet cross from Aaron Wijnkamp.

Kevin Henderson had the Strikers' best chance, but fired over the bar from 10 yards out.

MLF considers overseas matches

Major League Football officials are considering staging some matches abroad in the near future.

The UK-based competition has been a hit throughout the world and could be staging some overseas fixtures after the CSA Champions League successfully experimented with the idea last autumn.

A few CCL games in October were held in Los Angeles, Sydney, Rome, Paris and Tokyo.

"It would be good for the fans abroad to see MLF in their own backyard," said MLF commissioner Ron Gardner. "It would also be nice for us to give them something back."

However, many fans and managers have been against the idea.

"I don't get it," said Sheffield Strikers manager Harry Davies. "What's the point of going abroad just to play some MLF?"

However, London United boss Bobby Hutchinson was for the idea.

"I like it," said Hutch. "We'd love it if we were playing a competitive MLF match against FC London under the LA sun."
